One thing that all visitors to Thailand come away impressed by, is the wide variety arts, crafts and food products made locally in all areas of the country. Shopping in Thailand is very popular, especially products, food and art promoted through the One Tambon, One Product (OTOP) scheme that helps local businesses and people to make money by marketing and selling their indigenous products.
A huge variety of these products, which range from exquisite fabrics to spa products and gifts will be on display at the OTOP Arts and Crafts Festival 2017 which is one of the events in Bangkok being held to honour Her Majesty Queen Regent Sirikit of King Bhumibol Adulyadej who has always worked hard to promote Thailand’s arts and crafts and to preserve the heritage of the kingdom. To celebrate the work of the Royal Family there will be a special exhibition in honour of H.M to Queen which showcases some of the fabrics and handicrafts from the four regions of Thailand. The OTOP Arts and Crafts Festival 2017 will also give visitors the chance to see the exquisite work of leading craftsmen.
There will be hundreds of booths from OTOP traders and brands and the chance to see demonstrations of handicrafts being made and Thai wisdom being practiced. To entertain people, there are also fashion shows, which showcase Thai fabrics, cultural performances, artworks and local food to enjoy.
Under the theme, “Thai Handicrafts, Thai Folk Wisdom”, the aim of the Festival is to show to visitors the amazing quality of Thai goods and artwork, and to help preserve some of the ancient arts and crafts of the kingdom, ensuring that grassroots communities have a sustainable income.
Not to be missed are the Silapacheep Foundation’s handicrafts and examples of exquisite fabrics such as Nakha fabric from Udon Thani, Ban Khwao fabric from Chaiyaphum, Mae Jok fabric from Chaing Mai and Batiks from Songkhla.
The OTOP Arts and Crafts Festival 2017 will have special zones for different products and services. As well as a health zone, where people can try Thai health treatments such as massage and oils, there will be a street food zone where tasty regional snacks, many using OTOP products can be tried.
